14/8. Processing and Contact prints

I'm a little behind on this blog. Today I (eventually) made contact prints of the two films I shot over the week. I am going to need to re-take nearly every one of my photos! :( as most of them are so underexposed I can hardly see anything on the negatives besides a few dots in some cases. The images that DID turn out okay are mainly the ones I shot as 'back up' but I don't think they're good enough. Also, they didn't turn out anything like I expected. What you see through the viewfinder is definitely NOT what the Holga records (we were warned about this, but I didn't think it would be as different as it did work out to be). But I guess that's whats so great about these cameras. They're so experimental and the results are basically a surprise. Usually I would think this is a good thing.. when an assignment wasn't involved! at least I have a little bit of an idea of what went wrong with my films and how I can improve to make sure my next lot turns out okay.
I'm bound to forget so i'll record it here...

Take photos outdoors! - I took nearly all of my photos indoors. All were right next to a bright window and I just assumed this would be ok. Not at all. Maybe If I had turned a light on inside it would be better.

Use a model - every photo except a couple, that included a person I used myself as a model. Because a) I thought it would be more suiting, as I'm exploring my own relationship to food and b) During the daytime everyone is so busy! I asked a couple of people to help me but they were only free at night.. when there is no light (obviously)

Don't be so pedantic about what's in the frame - I figure i'm going to get unexpected results either way, so I will take photos from a bit further back (most were taken very close up as they were emphasising a smallish detail, then the part I was focusing on was completely not even in the frame!). I will modify this to work .. take photos from further back I suppose.

My contact prints were a nightmare to do. As I knew there was something on most frames, just couldn't get it to show up very well! Hopefully by friday, I will have good quality images that will actually be usable.

This was taken on my iPhone to test an idea
